Can Agricultors

Professional Training School for Farmers and Gastronomy Barcelona

The project addresses Spain's ageing farmer population, with 56% over 55 years old, emphasising the urgent need for generational change. The Ministry of Agriculture allocates over 220 million euros to train new young farmers.

Situated at the border of the Agricultural Park, Sant Joan Despí, and Sant Feliu de Llobregat, the project focuses on agriculture, proposing a farmer’s school with a strong gastronomic identity.

Urban planning integrates the agricultural park into the urban fabric, introducing a new access gate and productive terraces. The volumetry reuses an existing Masia, maximising its south façade for solar energy collection. The roof, designed with facets, optimally collects solar energy.

The building structure combines reinforced concrete, compacted earth load-bearing walls, and laminated wood for beams. The façade features a concrete skirt, south-facing pivoting windows, and north-facing tilt-and-turn windows. The space is organised for gastronomic activities, theoretical teaching, and practical activities.

The project aims to unite gastronomy and agriculture for education, emphasising Catalan ecological agricultural and gastronomic traditions. It seeks to create an inspiring space for students through sensory experiences, promoting cooperation, and environmental care. Overall, the initiative envisions a holistic centre dedicated to the education of Catalonia's agricultural and gastronomic heritage, with architecture serving as a crucial third educator.
